There are MANY different shapes that are used in creating designs with fabric and thread in EPP, and Michele’s classes are how to create the basic shapes. She will also present a short power point program for inspiration on what you can make and do with each specific shape in class.

Explore the World of English Paper Piecing: Hexagons

Skill level: All – some hand sewing experience will be helpful. 
Class length: 3 hours

In Project 1, learn the basic skill in hot to hand sew the 19 finished hexies together into 2 connecting rows around a center hexie; and applique it to a base fabric.

In Project 2, Michele will teach you a “twist” on a hexies, and how to make a diamonds plus after the design is sewn together, it can be appliqued to a base fabric.

In Project 3, learn how to sew hexagons and triangles together to make a star.

Explore the World of English Paper Piecing: Jewels

Skill level: All – some hand sewing experience will be helpful. 
Class length: 3 hours

In Project 1, learn the basic skill in how to hand sew 6 jewels together to make a flower.

In Project 2, Michele will teach you how to make hearts from the jewels; and then sew the hearts together.

In Project 3, learn how to sew a center hexagon, and 18 jewels and together to make a star which can be appliquéd to a base fabric.

Explore the World of English Paper Piecing: Diamonds


Skill level: All – some hand sewing experience will be helpful. 
Class length: 3 hours
 
Diamonds, a “girl’s best friend”, are an interesting shape to sew by itself or connect with a triangle! 
 
In Project 1, learn the basic skill in how to hand sew 6 diamonds, sew them together to make a star, and then add 6 connecting diamonds to make a hexagon.
 
In Project 2, Michele will teach you how to sew 4 small diamonds together to make a larger diamond, and then sew 6 large diamonds together to make a star. 
 
In Project 3, learn how to sew 3 diamonds together to make a “baby block”, then sew 6 equilateral triangles to the blocks to connect them.

Explore the World of English Paper Piecing: Curved Shapes


Skill level: This is not for beginners; and some hand sewing experience with EPP shapes is required. 
Class length: 3 hours
 
Curved shapes (with names like clam shell and apple core) provide an interesting “twist” and challenge to stitching in EPP.

Project 1, learn how to hand sew 4 clam shells, then hand appliqué them to a base fabric to form a flower with a fabric circle in the center.

Project 2, Michele will teach you how to make individual apple cores from fabric; and then sew the apple cores together to make a mug rug.
 
In Project 3, six Hex Dens will be sewn separately; and then sewn around a center hexagon to form a flower.

Creating Hexagons Using Different Shapes


Skill level: This class is for EPP beginners, and a *little handwork experience will be helpful.
Class length: 3 hours

Michele will discuss and demonstrate the basics of EPP including various types of templates and stitches used; hand or glue baste; plus fabric, thread and tools used. She will teach you how to create these individual basic shapes: hexagon, half hexagon, triangle, jewel and diamond; and then how to sew these shapes together to make 3 different hexagons. A short power point program on what you can make and do with these EPP shapes will also be presented for inspiration.

Mixing English Paper Piecing Shapes: Rose Star

Skill level: This class is NOT for EPP beginners, and those attending need to have EPP and/or handwork experience.
Class length: 3 hours

Once you get hooked on EPP, you will discover that there are MANY different shapes that are used in creating designs with fabric and
thread. Michele will teach you how to create a hexagon, kit, half kite, and a hexagon third so that when these pieces are sewn together like a puzzle, you will create a variation of a Rose Star. Michele will teach you the flatback stitch; and how to use cardstock and/or freezer paper templates. The use of Color Value to make sections of the block recede or move forward will be discussed using a short power point program for inspiration. Directions will also include how to hand applique the finished design to create a pillow top.

Lucy Boston – Patchwork of the Crosses

Skill level: This class is NOT for EPP beginners, and those attending need to have EPP and/or handwork experience.
Class length: 3 hours

There are MANY different shapes that are used in creating designs with fabric and thread in EPP! Michele will teach you how to create the infamous Lucy Boston (a.k.a. Patchwork of the Crosses) design using honeycombs in 2 different variations of fabric and color; and how the block goes together (with the squares). The “magic” of this block is how to use and fussy cut specific fabric (prints, stripes, etc.) to make this block pop! Michele will teach you the flatback stitch; and how to use cardstock and/or freezer paper templates. The use of Color Value to make sections of the block recede or move forward will be discussed using a short power point program for inspiration. Directions will also include how to create a nine block wall hanging using 9 completed blocks.

Hexagon Pumpkin Mini Quilt

Skill level: Beginner (must be able to sew an accurate 1/4″ seam on a sewing machine) 
Class length: 3 hours (handwork is done in class while the project is finished with a sewing machine at home).

Hexagons are all the rage whether in quilts, tiles or advertisements! Making hexagons is an easy “take along” project for riding in a car or watching TV. A short power point presentation of  hexagon projects for inspiration! Michele will teach a quick and easy way to create English paper pieced 1 1/2″ wide hexagons using scraps and a rotary cutter. Students will learn how to hand sew individual hexagons; piece them together to make a shape (pumpkin is shown, but class could also be a tree or flower); and applique the shape to a base fabric. Michele will also show how a border and binding can be added to create a 14″ x 17″ mini quilt at home with a sewing machine; and can be hand or machine quilted plus embellished with seed beads.

Scrappy Hexagon Pillow
