Happy spring everyone! It says it’s spring on the calendar, but here it’s snowing! Mother Nature needs to check her calendar. Maybe this year we won’t have a drought here this summer. It’s nice to have to be inside today though as I am working on new quilt patterns and kits. The quilt on the right is NEW, and called “Floral Delight”. It features gorgeous fabrics from Red Rooster. I decided to try something different as a medallion type quilt. There are template free blocks framing the center square is actually a large square instead of 4 separate squares. I pieced and machine quilted the entire quilt before doing the appliqued floral design. The center of the quilt is heavily machine stippled to make it nice and flat which made fusing the applique designs on so much easier! And, I like the dimensional look that the stippling gives to this quilt. I machine appliqued (and quilted) the floral design using green (for the stems), and red (for the buds) in the bobbin, and a monofilament in the top of the sewing machine. I was going to do a satin stitch or machine buttonhole stitch originally but I like the “lighter look” with the monofilament. If you try this applique method, be sure to practice before you do your project as you may have to adjust the upper tension on you machine. I just posted this 50 1/2″ square quilt on my site today for $45. The quilt kit includes the fabric for the top and binding; and a free pattern! Supplies are limited so order soon. I’d love to hear your comments about this new quilt.
